Hi! Thanks so much for visiting Starstuff Yoga.
I’m Athena. I live in Indianapolis with my Beardy Face, two dogs, and two cats. I grew up a little in Europe, then my family immigrated to the US when I was 10. In college, I studied philosophy, history, and creative writing. To pay the bills I’m a barista for a friend’s business, and in my spare time I’m working towards becoming yoga teacher.
I love yoga (obviously). I have always wanted to get into wellness in some aspect, which must be hereditary because both my mother and grandmother were nurses. I also have the deep love of science and curiosity that comes with having a scientist for father.
Starstuff Yoga shares my current journey from a part time yoga practitioner to a yoga teacher, including my views on life. There may also be things about cooking (including Gluten Free), coffee, crazy hair colors, motorcycles, and probably some dog pictures.
The blog is named directly after the quote from Carl Sagan:
“The surface of the Earth is the shore of the cosmic ocean…Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return, and we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We’re made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.”
― Carl Sagan,
This is exactly how yoga makes me feel. Maybe each time on the mat (or the floor, bed, carpet…) isn’t always a spiritual awakening. Sometimes, I just need to do butterfly pose because my back is killing me! But that’s the great thing about yoga, it’s for everybody, and there’s no wrong way to practice it. For me, yoga is how I return to being one with the cosmos, for just a little while. If you have your divine feelings all sorted out, it’s a great stretch. And if you feel some inner peace is missing, the time spent with yourself is a great investment.
Thanks for coming to visit and I’d love if you come back often. Please let me know if you have questions or suggestions. I’d love to hear them!
